- Continuing with the IS 1729 marked CI pipes. Check each and every CI pipe for no cracks, holes or even pinholes in it. Overall length of each pipe is to be 1800 mm. See that each pipe is well coated externally and internally with tar based material. This coating is done by immersion process in the manufacturer’s factory. Manufacturer's mark, year of manufacture and internal diameter of the pipes are written on the pipes. Check the same. The year of manufacture is indicated by last two digits. So check for ‘06’ and not ‘2006’ when checking the year of manufacture. Simplest way to ensure good quality of pipes is to check their weight. If the weight is correct, thickness of pipes is going to be correct. See that the pipes give a clear ringing sound when mildly hit by a light hammer.
